Ben Matrix began his DJing career in 1995, and played
out for the first time just one year later. He became a DJ because he "always loved
underground music," and he says, "it was the progression of music that brought
me to where I'm at with music today, plus I'm a big fan of technology and the constantly
changing music it gives us." His aggressive drum & bass style has earned him a
lot of recognition, including residencies at Zythos in Pittsburgh and The Haven in
Orlando, as well as affiliations with Downlow Communications and Jungala Records.
Pittsburgh, Erie, Buffalo, Columbus, Baltimore, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, and Indianapolis
are just some of the many cities Ben has played in. Some of his more memorable experiences
as a DJ include "the friends [he's] met in different cities all over the country and
the comfort of knowing that if you want something bad enough, you can get it." His
favorite experience was "opening for Electric Skychurch last
summer with DJ Circle K and MC Collaborator in front of 2800
people."
Renegade Hardware, Machine Code, Cylon Records, Under Fire Records, and Biotic Records top
Ben's favorite labels list. You can hear his sound on one of his many mixtapes or CDs,
some of which have been reviewed in Urb and Mixer magazines.
Ben's goal in the future as far as music is concerned is "to keep moving
forward." He has accomplished many things as both a DJ and promoter, and it is clear
he isn't going to stop anytime soon. He says, "I want to let people hear the newest
tunes... it is something that I love to do. I feel that if you keep up with new music
you'll never grow old. It's all about the music." Catch
this fine selector running Infrastructure , a miami drum n bass staple. Ben 'matrix' is a hot
stepper. |

From Wu-Tang Clan to Gravediggaz, Brotha
Lynch Hung to Insane Clown Posse, and Korn to Slipknot; all the
ingredients for a hardcore Drum and Bass DJ called Sicc:16. “It was all
about that feeling when I walked into the Jungle Room and was surrounded
by the vibe.” That is when he realized Drum and Bass must be a part of
his everyday life.
Sicc:16, aka Will Caban, is originally from Youngstown, Ohio. With
Cleveland to the west and Pittsburgh to the east, Drum and Bass began to
close in on him. The time was January of 2000 when the mystical
influence of Drum and Bass converted him into a vinyl junkie.
After several mixtapes and one mix CD, “Guilty Pleasure”, the respect
finally came when Sicc:16 released, “Sicc:ession”. Distributed between
the Pittsburgh and Cleveland areas, people began to respond. Invitations
to play at art museums, bars, clubs and raves were the results. “Getting
the people to listen was the hardest barrier to break. And once they
did, I couldn’t ask for a more positive reply.” Moments like those are
what encouraged his pursuit as a Drum and Bass DJ.
Over time, Sicc:16, along with a few others, created a new found
respect among the Drum and Bass scene. With residencies at several small
venues, he helped change a predominantly House music area into a Drum
and Bass community.
In June 2003, Sicc:16 moved to St. Petersburg, FL to utilize his degree
in Graphic Design. With school out of the way, Drum and Bass soon became
a top priority. But there was one obstacle….getting the people to listen
again!
Mixed CDs such as “Kinetic Mind” and “Call It What U Want” were heavily
circulated throughout Florida. “The music did not just bring respect,
but it allowed people to understand my vision of Drum and Bass.”
Persistent motivation and an aggressive outlook, along with respect for
all, are his key personality traits. As a DJ pushing the sound, his
intensity, invention, and innovation, make him top notch.
“Drum and Bass was never a dream. You dream when you sleep. It was when
I was awake that I thought about Drum and Bass. Therefore, to me, it
became a passion.”--Sicc:16

MC ANTI
Born and raised in Chicago
Il, MC Anti started MCing at the age of 12. Focused and proud, militant
and powerful, MC Anti doesn't love D and B, he lives it. A survivor he
long ago embraced what it means to be a junglist. Riding the edge of
rhythm and survival Anti preaches what he sees, hoping to arm another
generation of junglists with the ideas and rhythms that have sustained
him for the last decade. Anti believes that music has literally saved
his life and the fierceness of that belief comes out in his every
performance. With a growl and a glare he helps drive the sound he pushes
with force, stepping the crowd up to a hyper pace. A lyricist and a hype
man, an iconoclast and preacher, Anti continues to push himself and the
sound that he loves.
